Ryan Walter
Ryan Walter was an outstanding player in the National Hockey League for
15 seasons. Ryan was the second overall draft choice in the 1978 draft
and went on to Captain the Washington Capitals for four seasons. At that
time, he was the youngest captain in the history of the NHL. Ryan was
then traded to the legendary Montreal Canadiens where he played for the
next 9 seasons and won a Stanley Cup in 1986. He then returned to his
hometown of Vancouver to play the final 2 years of his career with the
Canucks.
In his career, Ryan played more than 1,000 NHL games. He had the honour
of being Captain of Team Canada's World Junior Team, played for Team
Canada in 4 World Championships, played in the 1983 All-Star game, and
was named the NHL's "Man of the Year" in 1992 for his on-ice
and off-ice contributions to the game. Additionally, Ryan was a player
representative and Vice-President of the NHL Players Association.
Ryan's tremendous demonstrated leadership abilities have led him into
his next career as an outstanding motivational and business speaker.
His current employment as a colour commentator demonstrates his abilities
with the spoken word. He has used his life experiences to develop a
presentation to corporations which is both instructive and motivational.
Ryan uses principles from hockey that are transferable to business and
reinforces his presentation with stories and anecdotes from on the ice
and in the dressing room. His presentation touches on leadership, teamwork,
work habits, vision and overall quality of life.
Church and Christian audiences also love Ryan's way of sharing his
faith in God in this setting. He and his wife Jennifer are both popular
speakers with men's and women's groups as well as with couples. Their
Biblically-based presentations are well-received.
