Michel Dion
Michel Dion was a very gifted athlete. Not only did he play pro hockey
at its highest level, but he played in the Montreal Expos farm system
as a catcher for two seasons, and also was a golf pro for a period of
about 10 years. In hockey, Michel achieved great success in both the
National Hockey League (NHL) and the old World Hockey Association (WHA).
In his rookie season in the WHA with the Indianapolis Racers, Michel
captured the Ben Hatskin Trophy awarded to the best goalie in the league
- you might say it was the WHA's version of the NHL's Vezina Trophy.
When the WHA folded and was absorbed by the NHL, Michel then spent time
with the Nordiques and the Jets before settling in Pittsburgh. In the
1982 season, Michel was chosen as the starting goaltender in the All-Star
game for the Prince of Wales team, a tremendous honour.
Certainly, Michel has experienced the highs of professional hockey.
However, Michel has also encountered many of the lows, trials and tribulations
of life that many of us encounter. He has faced serious family issues
and has battled financial ruin. The "big bucks" of pro hockey
are long gone through a series of bad investments and unscrupulous advisors.
But Michel's spirit is not dampened. His faith in Jesus Christ as his
Saviour sustains him.
Michel is an exceptional speaker with Christian audiences. He speaks
honestly, openly and from the heart about his life experiences. He is
a humble man who reveals his "warts and all" to his audience
as he shows that God has a plan for his life.
Michel is a gifted speaker who will inspire his audiences. He also
still enjoys the game of hockey and is available to conduct goaltending
clinics or teach young goalies on a one-on-one basis. Certainly, your
contact with Michel Dion will teach you what it is to be a humble servant
in life.
