Meadowlark Lemon
Meadowlark Lemon is universally known as "The Clown Prince of Basketball".
The name is unforgettable and the face is instantly recognizable. He
played for 24 seasons, which encompassed more than 7,500 consecutive
games, with the world-renowned Harlem Globetrotters. His skills have
allowed him to play before popes, kings, queens and presidents in more
than 94 countries and more than 1,500 North American cities. Laughter
followed him everywhere as he performed his "No-look, wrap-around
pass" for an easy slam dunk, his hook-shots from half court which
inevitably ended with a "swoosh" through the netting, and
for his ability to turn a hapless referee into a foil for his wit.
After leaving the Globetrotters in 1979, Meadowlark went on to appear
in feature films, made many television appearances and numerous television
commercials. He also recorded an album titled "My Kids" for
RCA and Casablanca Records.
In the year 2000, Meadowlark was honour by the Naismith Basketball
Hall of Fame with the John W. Bunn Award. This award recognizes outstanding
lifetime contributions to basketball. It is the highest honour, outside
of enshrinement, which can be bestowed upon an individual.
Audiences of all ages have heard of the legendary Meadowlark Lemon
and love to meet him and hear him speak. Corporations learn from Meadowlark
about teamwork, leadership and the ability to laugh. Additionally, Meadowlark
enjoys speaking and working with children, Native North Americans, and
athletic groups. He works with youngsters in inner city gangs, prison
and drug programs. And he speaks passionately with church groups. Christian
groups will note that Meadowlark Lemon is now an ordained minister.
He owns and hosts the Meadowlark Lemon Show on the Trinity Broadcasting
Network.
